Popping out to say cuckoo

A couple of weekends ago I spent a very cliched day for a blogger - an afternoon with cupcakes, tea and shopping!

I have been desperate to try Cuckoo's Bakery in Edinburgh for ages, pictures of their mouthwatering looking cupcakes have been popping up on my Facebook timeline for months.

With a great range of different flavours of tea and a variety of cupcakes it was hard to pick just one.  So hard I didn't pick just one!  I got tutti fruitti to eat in the cafe and took home a banana split and red velvet to share with my boy.  As per usual my tea choice was unadventurous (Earl Grey) but my friend went for cherry and almond which I got a taste of, it was delicious.

The cupcakes themselves are so tasty, each ball of butter cream on top of my cupcake had a different flavour and the sponge was perfectly moist.  If cupcakes are not your cup of tea (what is wrong with you?!) you can also get slices of cake, brownies and even lunch.

The cafe itself is cosy and quirky with bunting on the wall and even a cuckoo clock.  The details are what really makes this place, real tea leaves and tea strainers for your cup, even sugar tongs if you like a lump or two.  All the crockery is bespoke printed with Edinburgh landmarks, but my favourite part of the cafe though has to be the display case for the cupcakes.

Cuckoo's Bakery is definitely worth a visit.  You can find the cafe on Dundas Street and their cupcakes can also be bought at Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh.
